The U.S. Department of Labor has released the final rules governing which executive, administrative, and professional employees (white collar workers) are exempt from the FLSA minimum wage and overtime pay protections. Effective December 1, 2016, the salary threshold increases to $913 a week or $47,476 annually. Additional information is available from the DOL’s Wage and Hour Division.
48 states and territories either have already implemented or have plans to implement SIDES, a free electronic message broker that enables communication between state unemployment insurance agencies and employers and/or their third-parties for the administration of UI benefits and taxes. The system is meant to streamline UI processes so employer compliance is easier and to prevent fraud more effectively.
